Randomness
It has to be fought on our side of the glass
Philip K. Dick, Ubik
Ah yes, Mr. Dick, and it has forever been so. But what side of the glass are we on?
A few notes, I've changed the very misleading Weekly Packet into the Wayward Packet. Now it will just get updated when I can, or when I feel like it.
This weekend I stumbled across an odd thing, a curious toy from Japan, electronic message in a bottle. The idea is that you draw something, place it in an electronic 'bottle' and the bottle gets delivered to another user, picked at random. You can't type text, so there isn't a language barrier. Apparently they can also give messages to people who don't have Internet access.
"Bottle Mail" is a system for delivering email, but is totally different from regular email because both the destination (one single person) and the date when it will be delivered are unspecified.
Bottle Mail web site.
If nothing else, the site is an interesting example of Japanese to English translation.
Bang.com (since 1981!) is still one of my favorite one-page web sites.

Cable Modem!
Yes, the cable modem guy showed up on schedule. The ISP account is gone but I haven't cut all my ties with Ma Bell yet. I might keep one phone line for a while, just to see how much I use it.
Most people think the guy just has too much time on his hands, but I like what this guy has done. Just about everything in his house (doorbell, microwave oven, trash can) is connected to his computer. His web site then gives statistics on stuff like his cat's eating habits. Wow.
If you find the reality into electrons trip a little too rough, how about electrons into reality? Check into that little village in "Germany," Icontown.

Randomness
I've spent a few days figuring out how to get a second ethernet card to work on harp, my Sun IPX. I do believe I've figured it out (the system now complains when the cable is unplugged) but I can't get the silly thing to boot (I've reinstalled the system). The ultimate plan is for harp to act as a gateway to the Internet for the rest of the home network. Right now just the RouseWorld Airport (and my laptop) is connected.
But not too busy to take notice of a few disturbing trends. Do you like news? Do you like women? Do you like the idea of naked women awkwardly reading the news in front of blue-screen displays? If so, then Naked News is for you. It's a RealMedia site, although I'm sure Real doesn't claim them. I suppose the site isn't any stranger than the Universal Sleep Station.

The gay thing
Looking into the whole 'gay' thing:
Blowing up the moon is gay. Causing seizures is gay (even if it is funny). The ILOVEYOU virus is gay. Going to Canada if the guy you like isn't elected is gay. This is probably gay (it is at least French, but I like it anyway).
I'll I've got to say is you is the gay.
At least this isn't gay. But is this?
From Flutterby (which sounds gay):
Erotic is just one feather... KINKY is the whole chicken.
