Cult trip to D.C.

Went to D.C. last Saturday, just for the day. And yes, the trip took a little bit longer than I thought it was going to
take, otherwise I would have planned to stay overnight. But it was nice — I got to drive and I got to go to Apple's retail
store at Tyson's Corner (nice mall, but since I'm an Apple cultie I just went to the Apple store) where I got a big honkin'
external drive to store digital video on. Wheee! I'm definitely ready to do more driving this fall.

My impression of D.C. — impossibly cute young asian women, bored, talking on cell phones. But no one seemed scared of
shopping, so maybe the economy isn't doing too bad after all.

Hmm, no links today — I'll try and repair that later this week.

Valis is running

Yeah! I finally got a replacement fan (actually the whole board) and the RouseHouse file server (valis) is running again.

A vision of Biggie Smalls? Egad!

Hmm, do I have time for this ... let me check my
schedule.

Some folks have been critical of America's
response in Afghanistan. If you are a left-leaning
feminist
who thinks we shouldn't be mean to the Taliban, well ... it is time to educate yourself.

Okay, enough politics. Well ... almost. Did you hear about
Bert and Bin Laden?

There is a new dating service for folks that don't want
to have sex — and that's not just before marriage folks, this is forever. Not that there is anything wrong with that, I guess,
it just seems odd that they are running personals. For a similar sense of "there really isn't anything wrong with that but..."
check out Durham's tourism web site. Durham, they say, has
a lot to 'offer':

There's so much going on in Durham. First, we have a rich multi-cultural
heritage, with lots of features of specific interest, such as the Hayti
Heritage Center and the Great Indian Trading Path. Second, we are a growing
community with a wealth of events and festivals that make terrific weekend
getaways. The American Dance Festival and the North Carolina International
Jazz Festival are just two of Durham's many exciting annual events.

Sure... Umm, Is it just me or have we never heard of any of these things until the last three or five years?
I got one email talking about Durham's 'rich Blues heritage,' Huh? Come on, did they just invent all of this stuff?

If you want the real deal on what to do with your time in North Carolina check out
NC Music, a nice site covering the live music scene around here.
And for those of you that don't know me that well, Durham is actually my favorite town (if not my home town right now) and I
have indeed taken vacation time there. But 'group tours,' I don't know.

Okay, there are basically two types of people. Some people think
this file is the funniest thing
ever and the very reason that something like the Internet was ever invented. Everyone else just has no sense of style.
Or something...

The next segment is swiped from memepool.

Okay, you know now if you have a sense of style or not, but are you
terrorist or not? You know that if you are, sooner or later
you are going to be a victim of The Bomb.

And remember, don't disrespect the man's Guinness.

Well it's vacation week, we will see how much I'm able to get done. I've got a couple of things on the agenda,
including some carpentry work on the outside of the house, perhaps some painting and (of course) editing video. Anyway,
enough about me...

Check out this neat
web-toy from NASA,
I just can't find the controls for activating the death ray... While we are on the subject of NASA, I'm sure a lot of you
know that the films of the moon landing were faked, but
I bet you don't know why.

Okay, so after pitching ncmusic.com a while back, I've been asked to mention the equally worthy
NC Punk. Support the local crazies,
folks, it's the right thing to do.

Now that I have a TV, I need to find the right TV schedule web site —
I think I've found it.

The Time Cube

Personal epiphanies are interesting — and the Internet has made them more accessible than ever, through little
personal sites. So anyway, there's this guy who's discovered that when it is summer and midnight in America it is winter
and noon in Austrailia (or somewhere). So (of course) that means that there are really four years going on at once and
four days at once (he counts midnight, noon, first light, last light). Naturally there is a huge conspiracy to keep people
away from the Truth.

If you'd like to be more confused, check out the
Time Cube — dude's web site, ya' know.

Well vacation week is going pretty well, I've got a board above the front porch replaced and primer on all the paintable
surfaces in front. With any luck I'll also be able to make a junk run before the week is through and clean out a bunch of
crap in the attic.

I see someone else has noticed the witch fad.
