Almost famous
I've never really met or hung out with anyone famous, but I have met a few people that are respected, at least in certain
circles. One summer when I was young, my Mother went to Paris with her brother's wife. There they met a woman about my Mom's
age who taught Science Fiction (as literature) at a University (near Nice, I think). The three women hit it off and
the French woman visited us for a few summers, eventually bringing around her bother
Pierre Bensusan, a
folk guitarist and singer. He stayed with us for a few
days and played at Duke University (and our house!).
Anyway, Many years later I met a young French woman in a bar, I asked her if she knew of Pierre Bensusan. She must have though
I was just asking about some random person from France, because she looked at me as if I were very stupid and said:
"France is a small country, but it is not that small"
Hmmm, I also met Ken Curtis once, at RDU, but we didn't hang out.
