Ismailism followup
Well I've gotten some interesting responses to the puzzle put forth in the last "Notes". I've been emailed twice,
once by "Missionary Mufti," who says the Ismailists are blasphemous and one from
"Kamaluddin Ali Mohammad," who says Ismailism is a true religion practiced for centuries. As a non-Islamic I'm
not qualified to make a judgement, but I did want to pass along the two messages so that readers see them for themselves.
- Missionary Mufti's email
- Kamaluddin Ali Mohammad's email
Both emails apparently orginated in Pakistan and both, oddly enough, were sent by people using Windows 98 and
Netscape Communicator 4.7 as an email client.

Randomness
Well, just in case you guys thought I was rounded up by militants or the FBI, I'm still here...
I've recently noticed that one of my favorite online-essayists, Heather Havrilesky has started a
blog. Havrilesy is a NC native and is best
known (by me anyway) for her work as senior editor of the late
Suck, a "pre-bloging" site with some good commentary and no porn, despite
the site's name. Continuing the trend, Havrilesky's site's name is also
not-safe-for-work.
Speaking of work ... at the newspaper where I work we get a lot of submissions from folks who want to write columns or
draw cartoons. Most of them should not be doing those things, but every once and a while we get someone who does a decent job.
One of those folks is Sean Carter, a Californian attorney/standup
comedian. His site, lawpsided, is worth a visit.
Just in case you have been looking around for a good Apple Computer history site,
here is one.

Star Wars theory
This has got to be the best Star Wars theory ever.

The Analog Fallacy
The link is a little old, but I wanted to share
this interesting look
at Internet piracy and what the writer calls "The Analog Fallacy."

Star Wars and revisionism
So, are you looking for something less clumsy and
less random than a
blaster?
By the way, I understand that George Lucas has decided
he needs to revise Episode IV a bit
to fit in with what we've learned in Episode I
and Episode II. I've been back to the Star Wars book
to check a few things, and it definitely seems contradictory to what has been presented in the latest two movies. I know,
I know, it is just a movie and Lucas can do with it what he wants, just please don't tell me he had the whole thing mapped out
30 years ago.
