Randomness

Crap, where did that week go to?

Today's Public Service Announcement —
don't forget to
pay the rent.
Thanks Penny-Arcade!

Well you all know I'm a big Google fan, but I've been checking out another searcher
Teoma, which also has a very clean site design and some
interesting technology.
Hey, they have to be cool — they know all about
RouseWorld.

Happy 4th

Happy 4th of July everyone!

Okay, now go outside and watch some fireworks or something.

Bluetooth notes

Well, I think I've finally recovered from the weekend.

Hey, it looks like some of my desires might
be fulfilled. The whole Bluetooth thing is being picked up by
some
of my favorite
vendors. Maybe soon I can have all my little toys talk to one
another as they should be able to. As an extra benefit, wouldn't it be cool to be able to use your cell phone, PDA or
computer as universal remotes for everything (lamps to TVs to stereos, baby!)?

By the way, I've made some changes to the old website usage report, go check it out.
There are lots of little interesting things, like the search words used to reach the site, as well as the usual
boring numbers.

The Japanese thing

As you guys may know, I've got this Japanese thing, right?

To me, Japanese popular culture has just the right
mix of familiar and alien to make it fascinating.
So anyway, memepool
had this link to a
Japanese ISP user's home page. The pages were interesting, but I found myself
(on a sleepy, rainy Sunday) looking over the other user sites.
There are a lot of 404s there, but some
interesting
sites.

My basic feeling is that I shouldn't visit a country where you don't know the language, but I think I could make
an exception for myself for Japan — the
country of tomorrow.

Well, anyway ... now you know how I spent my Sunday.

Tempest, tea pot, black

The sad thing is that many sites don't archive posts, so there is (or was) some really funny stuff
that I just can't create a link to, or even explain in a coherent way after the relevant rants have been removed.
But, I think this link
should remain (you need to scroll all the way to the bottom). Of course you'll miss the great
Little Gamers rant on the subject, oh well.

All I have to say is tempest, tea pot, black
... or something.

Oh yeah, I'd also like to take credit for guessing correctly that Apple
was readying something to help users synchronize various electronic doohickys.
It looks like I might need to get a new cell phone, though.

Randomness

Gosh it's hot.

Oh my God — there is an
Ellen Feiss
fanclub site. Beep, beep, beep indeed.

Poor girl,
there has been a discussion on
MacSlash (and many other places) about her, um, stage
presence in her Switch ad. Okay ... so if this means nothing
to you, don't worry about it, it's just a funny part of my cult.

Speaking of my cult — I assume you have seen the
latest film
at iRouseWorld. I'm afraid I don't know if I'm going to
continue using that site, however. The hosting company has decided to monetize
(I hate that word, it's as if capitalism was invented
yesterday or something) the web hosting site. So now I'm trying to decide if it is worth it to
keep the other email address and web site. RouseWorld will stay as is, whatever happens with the other one.

Star Wars fan fic

The weirdest Star Wars fan fiction movie ever? It has to be
this music video.

obsoleteSoftware announcement

I know you never saw this coming, but obsoleteSoftware has "released"
a new "product." I've taken the old "get addresses from Palm"
AppleScript, renamed it to make more sense and updated it to work
with Mac OS X,
Mailsmith 1.5
and Palm Desktop 4. The new script is called
"Dump Palm Addresses To Mailsmith 2.0." It is still doesn't do synchronization, only a one-way dump.

Of course I'd like to see the need for that kind of script to go away, but I've been thinking about using it
as a basis for learning AppleScript Studio
and building a more-or-less real application. It would then need a shorter name, I think.

Downloadable music

Want to really stick it to the man? Download music that isn't pirated, but is made by
people who want you to download their stuff. Just
not paying for commercial music won't change anything and only serves to demonize the
technologies used and the people that use them. Yeah, I know — like you care.
