Movie Idea No. 576

I know, me and my movie ideas. But this one is interesting, at least to me, because it came to me in a dream. I mean I understood, during the dream, that it was a mock up, of sorts, of a movie. This isn't the first time this has happened -- I've gone to the extent of dreaming titles and narration before -- but this has to be the most coherent segment I've seen. I woke up after the dream and wrote down on a sheet of paper:

'Russia, As We Knew Her'

Okay, so it is a WWII film, that much is clear from the title. The sequence I dreamed was a little strange, but I think the basic idea is valid. The ending months of WW II as Homer's Odyssey. I know, it has been done already, but this would be different.

The dream started out strangely. The main cast is a group of soldiers, separated from the main German army, who are trying to get back to Germany through the Russian countryside. As my dream started the soldiers were in a boxcar which, oddly, they must row (random dream strangeness). While travelling through a rail depot they are stopped by Soviet troops. The men almost manage to bluff their way through, but one of the German soldiers screws up trying tp speak Russian and they have to kill and hide the Russian soldiers and then abandon the boxcar.

I imagine the film continuing their journey, using various modes of transportation and stopping along the way at different places. Perhaps they are even captured for a while (makes sense if we are doing the Odyssey). There would be lots of adventure in the film. I'd think I'd prefer to leave the thinking to the audience, as the men navigate war-torn Russia.

And if we follow Odyssey, perhaps one man reaches Germany, years after the war is ended, and must prove that he is a German citizen, to officials who want to turn him away as a Russian.

So what do you think? Note that I haven't seen either Captain Corelli's Mandolin or Enemy at the Gates.
