re: To heck with the music industry
They always tell you not to complain if you can't offer some kind of solution. Well, luckily Robert Cringley has come up with the solution already, sparing me the work. We didn't always have a Industrial-Entertainment Complex and we can certainly get along without the one we have.

Money and Mouth
Just to show that I can practice what I preach...
A while back I did a DVD of a friend of mine's kid's birthday. For the video I wanted some background music that sounded energetic, yet "kid-like." I stumbled onto Stings and Things, a site with a selection of songs, loops, samples and sound effects. They wanted $1.50 (through PayPal) for a high-quality mp3 recording of Kitchen Cruisin, which seemed to fit the bill perfectly.

Kicking it Old School
I've added another classic Macintosh to my collection, an Apple Classic. The Classics, with 8 MHz of CPU and a 9" B&W screen aren't considered Apple's best, but I still like the little thing.

Viral?
WTF?
I'm sorry, I just didn't know that Lycos was this freaky. Okay, '.uk' -- maybe that's the reason ... yeah, no such page on the '.com' version.

Bang.com has evolved from a hauntingly odd one-pager to a place-holder site to a strangely violent music site -- but if you have visited it three times in the past five years you have seen it all. On the other side of the spectrum are sites like the original tragedy of the commons, Slashdot -- which you have to keep refreshing almost constantly, before you realize that they really are drowning, not waving.
Somewhere in the middle, lies McSweeneys.

More Online Comics 'News'
Hey! Poe is at it again! You remember Poe, right? His new comic is 'Errant Story' -- and sorry but I have no clue what the storyline is. Maybe this will help (Ha!), or you can just start at the beginning.
Anyway, Poe rocks -- go check it out.

Banzai!
Remember Buckaroo Banzai -- from that zany 80s SciFi film? It looks like this one guy really wanted to see a sequel to the film, even though it didn't do so well at the box office. So that guy went and wrote a script for a sequel, check it out! (I know, I'm starting to say that a lot...)
