Googlisms

This is easier to play with than explain.

But for those who want explanations, the Googlism engine uses Google to summarize what web pages have said about a given person, thing, place or time. It's cute and fun.

Why the RIAA is wrong

I know, this is like posting 'me to' like some brain-dead AOLer, oh well. If you haven't already read John Snyder (president of Artist House Records) and Ben Snyder's (It's a Gas) essay on the RIAA, you should. It gives a smart wrap up of all the reasons that the RIAA is going in the wrong direction.

More 'submissions'

I might have to end up pulling this, as I'm not certain of the permissions, but I think it is a good commentary on growing up in certain parts of North Carolina during a certain time period. The author is listed as "David Southland."

This may have been written before the "bubble" burst, but I'm not sure.

Is Pop-Punk Dead?

From the end of MC Chris' The Tussin is an insane, sarcastic look at the punk music scene from the mouth of Mutant Pop's 'Tim Chandler':

Snow in New York?

I've seriously got to get some more topic icons. I need at least music and music industry topics. Anyway, so that leaves me putting the latest news release from Radical Records in the "From Space" topic. Hey -- it isn't a news release, it's email from freaks!

And don't ask me why I'm covering the NY Punk scene instead of NC's scene -- we all know I'm too lazy to go to shows...

When you are in love with a beautiful server

Yeah, no updates lately -- I've been really busy at work. We've just got one of Apple's XServes and an ass big four-post equipment rack to put it in and of course I've been fiddling with all that for the past few days.

Quote of the day, boi

Fark on Avril Lavigne:

Okay, this is way late into it, but G4 said 'Hank Williams Sr. is more punk' than Avril.

Wow, really? Have you ever listened to Hank Sr.? The guy was not only more punk than Avril, he was more punk than Blink 182, the Offspring, and really just about anybody except possibly Bad Religion and the Ramones.

Drinking, wanting to be dead, wanting to drink himself to death, and then succeeding.

For guys like Hank Sr. and Johnny Cash to be even considered the same genre of music as Garth Brooks and Alan Jackson is about as silly as saying Avril Lavigne and the Sex Pistols are in the same genre.

Turn your cell phone into a remote

I first saw mention of Jonas Salling's Sony Ericsson Clicker on MacSlash. This is a very cool bit of software that allows a Sony Ericsson cell phone to be a remote control for a Macintosh computer. You can control your DVD player, MP3s player or presentation with a wireless Bluetooth connection between the Mac and phone.
