Underworld Movie
Via Slashdot, again.
This might even be interesting, a hottie vampire slays werewolves in a movie due out this September. The only thing that bothers me is that About.com has filed this under Dramatic/Romantic — hmmmm. Is this the Goth Remix of Romeo and Juliet?
Still, Kate Beckinsale kicking ass is an interesting concept.

I'm just a little sceptical of the industry's ability to do Gothic without turning it into a caricature. But hopefully it won't suck.
Besides, the cool Shakespeare play to do Goth-style would be Hamlet. You could almost do that without any changes at ll to the play, aside from being a little more creative than usual with costuming and updating some of the slang.
In fact, someone has probably done this already...
Well I do kinda see your point about the gothic thing, its like that with everything. Hollywood tends to overextend or stereo type people (Gothics, Italians, etc). So if it did do a bad job it would be nothing new.
But I have a feeling this one will be kinda differnt. Now as far as the shakespeare part I don't think they were going for R. and J., I just saw that in it myself. Like any good movie they wanted the struggle in there as well as the love story. And since all you have in the movie is two sides then thats just what it turns into. Plus they have the confusion in there regarding that type of thing I would say what it is but unlike their website I don't want to give to much away.
Anyways, so I think there are some good elements in this movie. I think it will be semi good as far as the Gothic end, they more just want the gothic end cause thats what most ppl relate to vampires espcially, as well as werewolves. But the scenery and the clothes are very nice, (clothes are fairly goth from what can see, but still does have some kinda matrix clothes like i mentioned earlier) and I think it will still be a pretty good movie as long as the action is not to much and decent and as long as the actors stay true to their characters; which it does seem to have and they do seem to do.
Hopefully so, I have a fondness for well done stylish movies ... and this movie sounds like it would be very good if it is *both* well done and stylish.
I will certainly make plans to see it.
OK here is a little update for you david. If you havn't seen it already they just brought out a new trailer with more back ground on the movie. Sound and info is lot better than first trailer even has most of the stuff from the first one in this second one. The movie to me is still looking pretty good. So hope to see more good things from this. Only thing that is bad about it to me, so far, is that it will be awhile before it comes out. BTW, if you like games they even made a game based on the movie and they either have the game or just a demo (i think the game though) at their website and all it takes is a copy of half life (its a mod for it). If this is the game, thats kinda crappy but I can understand since not many movies make video games seeing how they usually don't do well when (not including matrix) although I heard some ppl said the matrix game has kind of a dumb story line and i guess game play is to repetative. Not sure most ppl only bought it of course cause its the Matrix (those brothers arn't dumbies). Anyways, thats all for now let me know if want me to post when updates come up, other than that I say take care.
Thanks for the update on the movie, I had seen a trailer recently in a movie theater (either '28 Days Later' or 'LXG') but I had thought it was the same one I had already seen. I'll certainly want to check back at the underworld site.
BTW I was a little disapointed with LXG, a good summer action movie and very stylish -- but I really think it would have been better with fewer name actors and more attention to plot.
Certainly feel free to post again, indeed I'm thinking my way through a post that will talk about the Matrix and the emergence of anime-nior films. So this will be a reacurring thing with me, if I can keep at it.

Yeah I just recently saw the teaser Trailer for Underworld, me and my girlfriend are very much looking forward to the movie. And yeah it is kinda a gothic twist on R. and J. Maybe it will draw a good gothic crowd, as well as some Matrix fans, considering it has that matrix type feel to it almost. Hehe even the website is www.entertheunderworld.com .
But it looks and sounds to be a good movie. Kind of funny that I havn't seen the matrix, not sure if i ever will (in theatres anyways) but am going to see Underworld. Btw correct me if im wrong but if anyone watches anime out there and knows about Gally/Battle Angel. Am i wrong or does anyone else think that Kate Beckinsale kinda looks like gally in this flic?
