Techno fetish

I had been trying to be strong, but in the end I just couldn't resist. You see ... the mouse cord was driving me nuts. It swung back from the mouse down to the keyboard return under the desk (to a USB plug on the keyboard) and I never could get it situated comfortably. Of course rational solutions like a USB extension cable — so I could bring the cord around the back of the monitor just didn't appeal to me — not like the idea of a wireless mouse.

So I went and got a new mouse. Hey, I was already up at the Apple Store getting tax software, so why not? By the way — and I'm not the first to notice this — but there is just this certain something about Apple's product packaging. Everything is boxed up in a way that comes somewhere between expensive new watch and fetish object, the mouse included.

So far it works great, even with Adobe Photoshop. I takes a few seconds to wake up after sleep, but that is understandable given the whole Bluetooth thing. Getting the G5 and the mouse connected together was pretty straightforward and I was even able to name the thing "Rouse Mouse." I didn't have to bother with any software to get it to work (I'm running 10.3, and have already installed the current Bluetooth drivers), although the computer did suggest a firmware upgrade for the mouse after I got it working.

The next test will be to see if the mouse confuses iSync when that program is talking to my Palm and T68i.

But now, all is bliss until ... you know ... the keyboard's wire starts to bug me.
