The expanded RouseWorld

Personal entries like this can be kinda gross, but I do want to let everyone know what is going on. So if you do want to know what's been going on, click on through.

If you don't want to, there is a new Wayward Packet article available.

I've taken in a friend and her six-year-old daughter to live in RouseHouse for a while. The friend has had some pretty bad luck recently — she was the girlfriend of the guy mentioned in the post from June about the car wreck. She and Dan were to move in together on the Monday she learned he had died. I've known her for a number of years, and I had really hoped that her and Dan would work out — she needed some good news (long story).

But it ended up that she had about two weeks from the time she knew Dan had died to when she had to vacate her apartment. For a variety of reasons she didn't have the money she needed to extend the lease or find a new place. Her closest family is her sister in Baltimore, but a custody agreement with the baby's daddy basically keeps her in North Carolina.

Oh yeah, and her car had broken down.

So it ended up that my place was the "least worse place" for her to try and get her life back together.

Anyone who knows me knows I've been pretty careful (maybe even to the point of selfishness) to keep my life simple and uncomplicated. As I told Kevin, I guess I had it coming.

However, I think I've adjusted okay. Having a little bit of life in the house has proven to be nice, and I think I'll be bummed out when they do leave. I've played tag at the playground at Sonic, familiarized myself with the everythinggirl.com and built stuff with Lincoln Logs.

But we are still trying to give each other space, both physically and emotionally. A little tough to do sometimes in a small house, but hopefully we can handle it. Certainly this isn't a boyfriend-girlfriend thing.

So anyway, how was your summer vacation?
