Cry Baby

Um, now that I'm a rocker with a guitar I've just got to get some self indulgent solo rock guitar gear — and a few weekends ago I went ahead and got the ultimate accessory (at least for a 30-something Jimi Hendrix inspired punk such as myself) ... the Dunlop standard Cry Baby.

The Cry Baby is a wah-wah pedal — an analog electronic stomp box that boots a narrow range of frequencies and reduces the rest. Exactly which frequencies are boosted can be controlled as you are playing by something that looks like a gas or break pedal. The folks at Better Guitar have a good basic tutorial on wah wah pedals, along with example sound files.

By the way, I don't mean to be dismissive of wah-wah pedals. When used by someone who knows what they are doing, it can produce some awesome and emotive sounds. Its just that I'm a hack using the thing for novelty. Its okay, however, maybe I'll get better.
